The Gang that Couldn't Draw Straight


    The National Institute of Standards study shows an apparent distortion of the exterior columns, as demonstrated by the black arrows in the inset below. Note that what they are measuring is not the steel columns, but the sheet aluminum cladding, which is still clinging to the columns, albeit warped by the impact of the jetliner.

    HOMEWORK EXPERIMENT

    Access of the NISTNCSTAR1-6Draft.pdf document. Find "Figure 6-17. WTC 2 exterior columns bowing inward across north side of the east face between Floors 77 to 83 at 9:21 a.m." on page 173. Overlay an evenly spaced grid of parallel lines over the columns in the graphic as shown above, so the lines are aligned with the building's columns.

    You may find that the NIST plumbline itself has been fudged to exaggerate the distortion (yellow arrows).
